Case description:

Patient examined referred that two days ago on the tongue lesion appeared accompanied with pain, which caused difficulty in eating and speech. Medical history noted that in negli- gence the tongue of the patients was injured  with a sharp razor.

Discussion:

Examination of the tongue showed the presence of two irregular long fissures on the left lateral half followed by redness, infiltration and oedema. One was longitudinally placed with dimensions 0.5 cm in width and 3 cm, in length and 0.5 cm in depth. The other was placed transversely, smaller dimensions (length 1.5 cm, and the width and depth 0.5 cm). Patient began with topical application of the NBF gingival gel three times a day after meals. After 5 days of treatment partial withdrawal of redness, swelling and infiltration was noted. Initiated process of epithelialization reduced the width and depth of the fissures for 0.3 mm. The length of the bigger fissure cut to 2 cm, and smaller one less than 1 cm. Pain was moderate. After 7 days erythema was completely withdrawn, swel-ling visibly reduced and the depth and width of two fissures were barely measurable. The length of both fissure was reduced nearly twice. Pain was weakly present during the meals.

Conclusions/Clinical significance:

NBF gel has an positive effect on a traumatic tongue fissures causing fast epithelialisation, without redness, which completely withdraw after 10 days.
